Slurry pump mechanical seal cleaning and cooling

The flushing and cooling of the mechanical seal of the slurry pump are auxiliary facilities of the mechanical seal and are essential. Self-flushing uses the pressure difference generated by the pump itself or the pumping device in the sealing chamber to create a closed loop for flushing the sealed medium through the sealing chamber. Direct cooling can be done in two ways: one is the cooling liquid flushing mentioned above, and the other is to introduce cooling liquid into the pressure cover to cool the stationary ring, which is the part outside the sealing chamber, referred to as rapid cooling or back cooling, where the liquid is generally discharged using cold water.
The flushing and cooling of the slurry pump mechanical seal are auxiliary facilities of the mechanical seal and are essential.
1. Flushing of the slurry pump mechanical seal
1. Classification
- Self-flushing uses the pressure difference generated by the pump itself or the pumping device in the sealing chamber to create a closed loop for flushing the sealed medium through the sealing chamber.
- Circulating flushing uses a pumping device to circulate an external sealing fluid, which can be an external device or an additional device installed in the sealing chamber.
- Injection flushing, also known as external flushing, involves injecting another liquid from the outside into the sealing chamber to improve the working conditions of the seal. This method is suitable for transporting media containing solid particles.
Most slurry pump mechanical seal flushing uses external flushing.
2. Functions
- To reduce the temperature of the mechanical seal.
- To ensure good lubrication of the sealing end face.
- To prevent vaporization and avoid dry friction.
- To protect the sealing ring from damage in media containing solid particles, crystalline substances, and highly corrosive media.
2. Cooling of the slurry pump mechanical seal
1. Classification
- Direct cooling includes the aforementioned cooling liquid flushing and another method where cooling liquid is introduced into the pressure cover to cool the static ring, in the outer part of the sealing chamber, known as rapid cooling or back cooling, where the liquid is generally discharged using cold water.
- Indirect cooling involves adding a cooling jacket outside the sealing chamber, where the cooling liquid in the jacket is usually cold water introduced from the outside, forming a cooling system for the slurry pump along with the cooling of the slurry pump bearings.
2. Functions
- Mainly used to reduce the working temperature of the mechanical seal.
- To ensure the normal operation of the slurry pump mechanical seal.
The above is an introduction to the classification and functions of flushing and cooling of the slurry pump mechanical seal.
