The difference between single suction pump and double suction pump

1. Different characteristics

  • 1. Double suction water pump: It is equivalent to two single suction impellers of the same diameter working at the same time. The volume can be doubled under the same impeller outer diameter; the pump casing is horizontally opened, which is convenient for inspection and maintenance
  • 2. Single suction water pump: The single-stage single suction centrifugal pump is a simple centrifugal pump. This pump generally has a small flow rate and is mostly a small pump.

2. Different composition

  • 1. Double suction water pump: It is composed of two back-to-back impellers, and the water flowing out of the impeller converges into a volute.
  • 2. Single suction water pump: Single stage means that there is only an impeller in the pump, and single suction means that water is sucked from one side of the impeller.
  • Single suction pump means that water only enters one end of the impeller, and double suction pump means that water enters both ends of the impeller, that is, two inlets.

3. Different structure

  • 1. Double suction pump is more suitable for conveying large flow and requires stable operation. When the flow rate of the pump is very high, if it is a single suction pump, it must have a large pump inlet and outlet diameter. At the same time, the speed cannot be too large and needs to be stable at about 1450rmp. If a double-suction pump is used, the size and weight of the pump can be relatively reduced, the speed can be stable, and the volumetric efficiency can be increased.
  • 2. The double-suction pump has stronger anti-cavitation ability than the single-suction pump. Because the medium is sucked at both ends of the impeller, hydraulic symmetry will be formed, so the balanced axial thrust of the double-suction pump is better than that of the single-suction pump, and it runs more smoothly. Moreover, the flow rate of the medium is low, and the impeller is not prone to cavitation.
  • The double-suction pump has one more sealing chamber than the single-suction pump, so its cost is relatively high.

4. Different application scenarios

  • The single-suction pump is a water pump commonly used in agriculture. Double-suction water pumps are mostly used for water supply and drainage in mines, cities, power stations, and various water conservancy projects.
  • The single-suction pump generally has a relatively small flow rate. The advantage is that the single-suction volume is small for the same flow rate, but the axial force is large and the bearing burden is large. Compared with the double-suction pump, there are many limitations. In terms of use, the advantages of the double-suction sewage pump are more obvious.
