The differences between single suction pumps and double suction pumps are described from four aspects: characteristics, composition, structure, and application scenarios.
The difference between single suction pumps and double suction pumps
1. Different characteristics
1. Double suction pump: Equivalent to two identical diameter single suction impellers working simultaneously, the flow can be doubled under the same impeller outer diameter; the pump casing is horizontally split for easy inspection and maintenance.
2. Single suction pump: A single-stage single suction centrifugal pump is one of the simplest types of centrifugal pumps. This type of pump generally has a smaller flow rate and is mostly classified as a small pump.
2. Different components
1. Double suction pump: Composed of two back-to-back impellers, the water flow from the impellers converges into a volute.
2. Single suction pump: Single-stage means there is only one impeller in the pump, and single suction means water is drawn in from one side of the impeller.
A single suction pump refers to a pump where water enters the impeller from only one end, while a double suction pump allows water to enter from both ends, meaning it has two inlets.

3. Different structures
1. Double suction pumps are more suitable for transporting large flow rates and require stable operating conditions. When the flow rate requirement is very high, a single suction pump needs to have a large inlet and outlet diameter, and the speed cannot be too high, needing to be stable around 1450 rpm. If a double suction pump is used, the size and weight of the pump can be relatively reduced, and the speed can also be stable.Stable, and the volumetric efficiency increases.
2.The anti-cavitation ability of a double suction pump is stronger than that of a single suction pump. Because the medium is drawn in from both ends of the impeller, it creates hydraulic symmetry, which results in better axial thrust balance for double suction pumps, making them operate more smoothly. Additionally, the flow velocity of the medium is lower, making it less likely for the impeller to experience cavitation.A double suction pump has an additional sealing chamber compared to a single suction pump, so its cost is relatively higher.
4. Different application scenarios
Single suction pumps are commonly used in agriculture. Double suction pumps are often used for water supply and drainage in mines, cities, power stations, and various water conservancy projects.
Single suction pumps generally have a smaller flow rate, with the advantage of a smaller volume for the same flow, but they have a larger axial force and greater bearing load. Compared to double suction pumps, they have many limitations. In terms of usage, the advantages of double suction sewage pumps are more evident.
单吸泵一般流量比较小,优点在于相同的流量,单吸的体积小,但是轴向力大,轴承负担大。相比于双吸泵,有很多的局限性。使用方面上,双吸排污泵优势体现得更加明显。
