Precautions for using slurry pump

A suitable slurry pump not only requires the correct selection of the slurry pump, but also has many precautions for its use during operation. Only by making the initial selection appropriate and using it reasonably in the later stage can the service life of the slurry pump be effectively extended and the production cost of the enterprise using the slurry pump be reduced. Precautions for the use of slurry pumps are as follows:
1. Preparation work before stopping the slurry pump
Close the gate and bring clean water. Wash the slurry pump with clean water before stopping the pump to remove all the materials in the pipeline to avoid the materials from settling in the feed and volute after stopping the pump. Otherwise, there are three situations that affect the life of the pump.
① After stopping the pump, the material sinks and the pump cannot be started when it is used again;
② Although the pump can be started again after stopping, the pump will produce a large shake during the startup. This is mainly due to the precipitated material, which causes eccentric force in the rotation of the water wheel;
③ After stopping the pump, the material sinks and the pump inlet pipeline is blocked.
2. Ensure that the slurry pump operates under the slurry that can be transported
① Each type of slurry pump specifies the maximum slurry weight concentration and maximum particles that can be transported. When used on site, it should be ensured that it operates within the range allowed by the pump.
② If the concentration is too high, the resistance of the feed pipe will be too large, and in severe cases, some parts of the pump will be damaged.
③ If the maximum particle size exceeds the maximum allowed by the pump, the water wheel flow channel will be blocked, vibration will occur, and the flow components may be damaged.
3. Avoid running the pump when the high-pressure air duct is not closed
Some mineral processing plants use slurry pumps. In order to prevent the material from sinking, a high-pressure air duct is usually installed on the feed pipe near the feed pool. The high-pressure air duct is used to blow up the material that sinks due to stopping the pump, so as to avoid the feed port being blocked by the material after the pump is turned on and unable to feed.
But the high-pressure air duct must be closed when starting the slurry pump. If the high-pressure air duct is not closed or closed loosely, the material will be filled with high-pressure wind because the pump inlet pressure is low.
The gas expands in the feed pipe, enters the high-pressure area after passing through the water wheel, and rushes to the volute and liner, causing increased wear. In severe cases, the volute or liner will break.
4. Avoid running the slurry pump when the filling height is insufficient.
When the slurry pump is installed by filling, the absolute pressure of the water flow in the pump inlet will inevitably decrease during the normal operation of the pump body, and the minimum pressure zone will appear near the inlet edge of the water wheel.
This minimum pressure zone may be as low as the saturated vapor pressure of the critical pressure value water, causing cavitation, depending on the external conditions and the absolute pressure of the pump suction population.
The pressure in this minimum pressure zone in the dangerous pump during on-site operation is not constant, but depends on the filling height relative to the free liquid surface in the suction pool.
5. Pay attention to the supply of shaft seal water of the slurry pump.
Some slurry pumps will pass a certain amount of shaft seal water to ensure the shaft seal of the pump body during use.
As a vulnerable equipment, the wear-resistant slurry pump must pay great attention to the details during use. A little mistake may multiply the damage speed of the slurry pump and reduce the service life of the slurry pump, causing great losses to the user.
