The failure of a slurry pump to draw water may lead to equipment damage, production interruptions, and increased maintenance costs. This article lists the possible reasons for a slurry pump not drawing water and the solutions.

Reasons for the slurry pump not absorbing water

The main reasons why the slurry pump does not draw water include the following:

1. Air leakage at the suction pipeline or packing seal: This can cause air to enter the pump body, affecting the pump's ability to draw water. The solution is to check the suction pipeline and packing seal for leaks, and if necessary, tighten loose bolts or replace seals.

2. Incorrect rotation or damaged impeller: If the motor is rotating incorrectly or the impeller is damaged, the pump will not work properly. The solution is to check the rotation and, if necessary, adjust the motor wiring or replace the impeller.

3. Blockage in the suction pipe: Impurities, sediments, or large particles in the pipeline may block the suction pipe, preventing the pump from drawing water. The solution is to clear the blockage in the suction pipe to ensure smooth flow of the medium.

4. Excessive suction height: If the suction height exceeds the pump's allowable range, the pump will be unable to draw the liquid up. The solution is to adjust the suction height or, if necessary, use a multistage pump or add auxiliary equipment to enhance the suction capacity.

5. Leakage in the suction pipe and packing: Due to insufficient pressure, the pump cannot load enough material. The solution is to seal the leaking parts to ensure there is sufficient pressure inside the pump.

6. Blockage in the impeller holes: If the pump is stopped for too long or large particles enter the pump, it can block the impeller holes, leading to insufficient centrifugal force. The solution is to clear the blocked impeller holes.

7. Air in the pump body: Poor sealing of the inlet pipeline or air leakage at the packing can cause air to enter the pump body, affecting the pump's ability to draw water. The solution is to check and repair the sealing areas to ensure good sealing inside the pump body.

8. Inlet valve not opened or clogged: If the inlet valve is not fully opened or is clogged, it will obstruct the entry of fluid. The solution is to check and clear the inlet valve to ensure it is fully open.
