The shaft seal of a slurry pump refers to the sealing device used in the slurry pump to prevent the medium inside the pump from leaking out and to prevent air from outside the pump from leaking in. The role of the shaft seal is particularly important when the slurry pump is transporting abrasive slurry containing solid particles, as it helps to prevent medium leakage and maintain the normal operation of the pump. This article lists the main types of slurry pump shaft seals as well as daily maintenance and care.
The shaft seals of slurry pumps mainly have the following types:
1. Packing seal: It relies on the soft and hard fit between the packing and the shaft sleeve to achieve sealing effect, suitable for mineral processing plants, coal washing plants, etc.
2. Auxiliary impeller seal: It relies on the pressure generated by the auxiliary impeller to achieve sealing effect, suitable for environments with scarce water resources.
3. Mechanical seal: It relies on the close friction between the dynamic and static rings of the mechanical seal to achieve sealing effect, which can be divided into three types: non-water injection type, water injection type external flushing, and water injection type internal flushing.

The maintenance of slurry pump shaft seals mainly includes the following aspects:
1. Regularly check the sealing water and water volume: Sealing water and water volume are important factors for the normal operation of slurry pump shaft seals. Regularly checking the sealing water and water volume can ensure the sealing effect and cooling effect of the shaft seal, preventing high temperature and wear of the slurry pump.
2. Maintain a small amount of clean water flowing along the shaft: A small amount of clean water flowing along the shaft can carry away the heat and impurities generated at the shaft seal, preventing the shaft seal from failing due to high temperature or accumulation of impurities. It is necessary to regularly check the water flow situation at the shaft seal to ensure that the water flow is smooth and clean.
3. Regularly adjust the packing gland and replace the packing: Packing is an important component of the shaft seal, and its role is to prevent medium leakage. Regularly check the wear of the packing and replace it in time, while adjusting the tightness of the packing gland to avoid affecting the performance of the shaft seal due to being too tight or too loose.
4. Ensure that the water pressure and water volume of the shaft seal meet the requirements: The water pressure and water volume of the shaft seal are important factors affecting the sealing effect. Regularly check the water pressure and water volume of the shaft seal to ensure they meet design requirements, avoiding poor sealing and wear issues.
5. Regularly lubricate with an oil cup: For pumps with an oil cup on the auxiliary impeller seal, regularly lubricating with the oil cup can lubricate the internal packing or lip seal ring, reducing wear and extending service life.
